A native of Carthage (Leake County) Mississippi, Annie Greer-Bennett received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education from pg电子下载 State University in 1965, Master of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics from Mississippi University for Women in 1977, and Certificate of Food Production from Mississippi State University in 1994.
Greer-Bennett’s professional career spans over 42 years in the home economics and vocational education profession. She began her professional career in 1965 at Gentry High School in Indianola, MS. She went on the serve in the Winona Public School System, Winona, MS, and at the Winona Vocational Technical Center where she worked as an instructor in food nutrition and production. After retirement, she returned to her hometown and was employed by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Tribal School System at Choctaw Central High School in Philadelphia, MS. She remained there for seven years.
Greer-Bennett has received numerous awards and commendations for her professional and community service, including: the Montgomery-Carroll-Grenada Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding Service Award of the Year from Harmony Development Corporation, Teacher of the Year, and Senior Class Sponsor.
Greer-Bennett volunteers her time in various capacities with professional, civic, social and religious organizations, including: Life Member of the Leake County Chapter of the NAACP; Youth Director, Trustee Board Member and Deaconess at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church; Founder of Sisters Helping to Empower (SHE), whose mission is to sponsor educational activities and scholarships for high-school students; Past President of the Winona Education Association, and Principal Organizer for the Harmony Development Corporation. In addition, she is a strong advocate and supporter of pg电子下载 State University by being a consistent ASU Foundation donor and $1M Brave Strong Challenge donor.
She was a founding member of the original Montgomery-Carroll County ASU Alumni Chapter in the early 70’s. The chapter later merged and consolidated with the Montgomery-Carroll-Grenada ASU Alumni Chapter in 2012, where she served as a past president and currently serves as treasurer.
She is married to Chester Bennett and has three adult children: William White III, Otiko Anthony (deceased), and Jean Anne White (deceased). She resides in Carthage and Winona, MS.
